TALKING TO OUR PETS
Who hasn’t said, “wouldn’t it be fun if our pets could talk?” Maybe our pets are saying, “wouldn’t it be fun if humans didn’t talk?” What if we could learn to think like they do?
Many people say pets “talk” in pictures and swear that if you work on it, you can communicate with your pets by thinking in pictures. We do it in our own head anyway, why not try it with your pets? Before I leave the house, I picture myself driving in the car, stopping at a store or two and driving home. Maybe even picturing the activity we will do when I get home (walk in the yard, jump in the pool, snuggle on the sofa). Since they go on errands with me a lot, I figure they’ll get the idea.
GOING ON A TRIP? I’ve always liked this one: they don’t understand time but they do understand day and night. If you don’t believe it, read Temple Grandin’s work or watch the HBO movie (2010). So if you go away on a trip, you can communicate how many days and nights you will be gone. Letting them hang out and poke around in your suitcase as you pack and while you visualize the day/night scenario is also helpful. Picture where you are going and show that there are no pets allowed. Visualizing bringing home a treat can also be a nice, comforting gesture. Just make sure you remember the treat. Letting them take it out of the suitcase completes the picture for them.
Thinking the Way Animals Do
People with autism and animals both think by making visual associations. These associations are like snapshots of events and tend to be very specific.

Animals communicate telepathically quite naturally and you should not feel silly talking to your pet, rather you should feel silly if you don’t. When you share an intimate moment with you pet, talk to them, about anything, and gradually you will be able to understand their response. Interesting Link: Animal Healing Centre – Heal your pet
